Havre de Grace Teen Charged in Police Assault at Library

Loud music preceded the scuffle, police said.

A Havre de Grace teenager is facing charges after an incident at the library that caused minor injuries to an officer, police said.

The officer was on a security detail at the Havre de Grace branch of Harford County Public Library at approximately 4:45 p.m. Monday when two juveniles were playing loud music in the teen room, and he asked them to turn it down, according to a statement from the Havre de Grace Police Department.

One of the juveniles, a 15-year-old boy, began to laugh at the officer, who requested he leave the library; according to police, he left reluctantly but returned minutes later.

The officer told him to leave several times and began to escort him out when the teen pulled away and "assumed an aggressive stance towards the officer," Havre de Grace police said.

"The officer then attempted to arrest the subject for trespassing and the subject began to resist the officer," police said.

"Both the officer and the subject fell to the ground, and it took the assistance of a patron in the library to get the subject into custody," according to police.

The officer sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention, police said.

The 15-year-old was charged with assault on police, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, refusing to leave a public building and trespassing, according to the Havre de Grace Police Department.
