HdG Drug Investigation Nets 7 Charges: Police
A drug investigation on Stokes Street landed one man in jail, the Havre de Grace Police Department reported; the suspect was denied bail.
HAVRE DE GRACE, MD - A repeat offender was charged during a drug investigation on Stokes Street recently, according to the Havre de Grace Police Department.
Matthew Coleman Oakes, 39, of the 500 block of North Juniata Street, is facing seven charges as a result and was being held without bail, court records show.
Law enforcement officials said they were in the midst of counter-drug operation when they found a loaded handgun on a Oakes, who is not allowed to have a firearm since he is a convicted felon.

Oakes was charged with the following, according to court records:
- Possession of a firearm in a drug crime
- Illegal possession of ammunition
- Two counts of possession of a firearm with a felony conviction
- Illegal possession of a regulated firearm
- Having a handgun on one's person
- Having a dangerous weapon on school property
The counter-drug operation took place in the 600 block of North Stokes Street between 6:30 and 8:15 p.m on Aug. 18, police reported this week.

"Oakes is a prohibited offender with multiple convictions for crimes of violence and drugs," police said in a statement.
He was booked on Aug. 19 at the Harford County Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.
Oakes is slated to appear in Harford County District Court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 14.
