Plans call for the library to expand from one to two stories and grow from 8,400 to 15,000 square feet.
According to the Harford County Public Library, the current space is not sufficient to accommodate the community it serves; for example, the Havre de Grace branch houses 68,000 books and audiovisual items, while it was designed to hold 30,000 volumes. And its meeting room allows for 35 people, but some family programs have attracted as many as 150 in the crowd.

Those feeling the absence of their beloved library—more than 500 people walk through the doors off North Union Avenue each day—will not have to wait too long; a temporary location will open at 203 Market Street in approximately two weeks, according to the Harford County Public Library. The projected opening date on Market Street is Tuesday, Oct. 14, the Havre de Grace branch reports.
