HdG Main Street Hosts War of 1812 Window Decorating Contest

City businesses are getting in gear for the War of 1812 bicentennial commemoration in May.

Don't be surprised to see cannons or muskets in storefronts around Havre de Grace.

Businesses and building owners are getting their displays ready for the War of 1812 bicentennial commemoration weekend, and Havre de Grace Main Street is giving them an incentive.

Main Street is giving away $500 in prizes—$250 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place—to those with the best War of 1812 displays in their storefronts.

The purpose is "to show off our town and your business for all those who live in and visit our city" from May 3 to 5 for the Havre de Grace War of 1812 bicentennial commemoration, according to a flyer promoting the competition.

Judging for the contest will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 3. Stores whose staff dresses in period garb will earn extra points.

Winners will be announced at the "First Friday" event in downtown Havre de Grace on May 3. 

Storefronts must be registered to participate in the contest; call Havre de Grace Main Street at 410-939-1811 to register.
