HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Playgrounds are still closed in the city of Havre de Grace, Mayor William T. Martin announced Monday, May 18.

While Gov. Larry Hogan reopened playgrounds at state parks earlier this month, effective May 7, he said municipalities had the flexibility to determine how to handle the lifting of restrictions in their respective jurisdictions.

City playgrounds remain closed in Havre de Grace, the mayor said during Monday’s City Council meeting.

"The underlying message," Council President David Glenn said, is: "'Don't get complacent.'"

Once the playgrounds do reopen, officials gave citizens something to look forward to, particularly at the playground at Tydings Park.

The city of Havre de Grace purchased some new playground equipment to replace some "old faded red playground equipment" at Tydings Park, Martin said. According to the mayor, the equipment will be replaced in late June.

Havre de Grace is "going to put a really cool featured piece" that "kids will love" in Tydings Park, Martin said.

"We love playgrounds," Martin said. "We've just got to keep them safe."
