HdG Police Captain Raps For Lip Sync Challenge

A Havre de Grace police captain doubles as Vanilla Ice in this lip sync challenge video, recorded in a golf cart.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Captain Joe Alton of the Havre de Grace Police Department has a hidden talent. He does a mean Vanilla Ice impression.

The Havre de Grace Police Department posted a video of Alton along with officers from other departments lip syncing "Ice, Ice Baby," and Alton "rocked the mic like a vandal," as the lyrics say.

Alton and three other officers made the video while they were working at the Special Olympics summer games in June at Towson University.

The Havre de Grace Police Department shared the rendition, which was entitled "Golf Cart Karaoke," since the crew was tooting around campus in a golf cart.

"We received a lot of requests to do the Lip Sync Battle," the Havre de Grace Police Department said in its post with the video. "Luckily we have a star on our team, here is Captain Alton throwing down at the Special Olympics Maryland Summer Games!"

Alton is located on the back of the golf cart on the passenger side, holding the phone and singing most of the lyrics.

For the last month, law enforcement agencies around the country have been challenging one another to a lip sync battle in what's turned out to be a fun exercise not just for them but observers as well. The videos have shown a softer side to police.

The officer-led lip sync challenge began June 19 when Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy Alexander Mena posted a video of himself singing "Fuiste Mala" by Kumbia Kings, according to ABC. The Texas deputy has sparked a movement.

The Havre de Grace Police Department's video has gone viral and collected more than 34,000 views.

There's no telling what other lip-synced songs might emerge from this epic battle, but one thing's for sure: These are truly arresting performances.
