HdG Police Mourn Loss of Sheriff's Deputy

Police officers from Havre de Grace turned out to pay respects to Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey, who died in the line of duty.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD – The Havre de Grace Police Department was among the dozens of agencies participating in the funeral for Harford County Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey, who was killed Feb. 10 in the line of duty.

“Harford County honored one of its fallen deputies in an amazing service celebrating Sr. Deputy Dailey’s life,” the Havre de Grace School Resource Officers said in a statement Wednesday following the funeral service in Joppa.

Agencies from the NYPD to Havre de Grace and beyond lined up in their dress uniforms to salute the sacrifice that 52-year-old Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey made when he approached a man inside the Abingdon Panera who was wanted on a warrant; the man pulled out a gun, then shot and killed the deputy.

While searching for the suspect, the wanted man fired on another—Senior Deputy Mark Logsdon, 43—who later died from his injuries. Logsdon was one of several officers shooting rounds at the suspect, whom officials pronounced dead at the scene.

After the shootings in Abingdon that day, two officers from the Havre de Grace Police Department immediately provided support to investigators—one was off-duty returning home and another was in the area appearing in court, The Aegis reported.

The city of Havre de Grace also took action. To show it was rallying behind law enforcement, Mayor Bill Martin ordered that all city lights be turned blue for the week.

Both of the deputies who died in the shootout in Abingdon reportedly had ties to the city’s police department.

Senior Deputy Dailey had worked on Harford County’s version of SWAT with Havre de Grace Police Chief Teresa Walter, who knew him for his entire career and worked at the sheriff’s office with him, while Senior Deputy Logsdon organized a golf tournament that the Havre de Grace Police Department and Harford County Sheriff’s Office held together annually, according to The Aegis.

After Senior Deputy Dailey’s funeral, officials said the Havre de Grace Police Department was preparing to say goodbye to his fallen comrade. Visitation for Senior Deputy Mark Logsdon is slated for Thursday and Friday before the funeral service on Saturday.
