HdG Police Participate in Anti-DUI Campaign

Sobriety checkpoints in Harford County and increased patrols on Route 40 will coincide with Super Bowl Sunday.

Before Super Bowl Sunday, Havre de Grace police will join area law enforcement agencies this weekend to get citizens revved up about staying safe and sober on Maryland roads.

The Havre de Grace Police Department and 10 other departments will announce the “40 on 40” program.

Essentially, there will be 40 officers posted along the Route 40 corridor from Howard to Cecil counties, aiming to take impaired drivers off the road each night from Friday to Sunday, according to a statement from Checkpoint Strikeforce, a multi-state effort to curb impaired driving.

The initiative is supported by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, which selected Maryland and this stretch of highway based on crash data from the past several years, according to police. The data was not immediately available.

After the 7 p.m. Friday press conference at the Golden Ring Barrack to announce the weekend campaign, police will deploy along the Route 40 corridor.
