2 Charged With Stealing Vehicles Left Warming, Unattended: HdG PD

Two people have been charged in a pair of vehicle thefts that took place over the course of an hour in Havre de Grace, police said.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — After two vehicles were stolen from Havre de Grace, police remind residents not to leave their cars unattended. Police said both cars were reported stolen on Tuesday morning.

"During the cold months, it is important that you keep your vehicle secure as you never know who may be watching you," Havre de Grace police said in a statement. "Turn it off and lock it up!"

Officers were first called Tuesday at 9:01 a.m. when a Dodge Ram was reported stolen from a business in the 800 block of Revolution Street, according to Corporal Daniel Petz. The truck's owner provided a description of the suspects, substantiated by surveillance footage, and the information was broadcast so that officers could be on the lookout.

While officers were on the lookout for the stolen truck, authorities said a Honda CRV was taken from a residence in the 300 block of South Union Avenue at 9:29 a.m.

Havre de Grace police, Aberdeen police and the Maryland Transportation Authority police canvassed the area. An officer pulled over the Honda CRV in the 2100 block of Pulaski Highway and arrested two suspects, according to police.

Billy McArthur, 21, of Millville, New Jersey, and Gloria Bell, 19, of Rockingham, North Carolina, were arrested. Each has been charged with seven offenses:

  • Two counts of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle
  • Making a false statement to an officer
  • Theft from $100 to $1,500
  • Theft under $100
  • Two counts of unauthorized removal of property

Both were taken to the Havre de Grace Police Department and the Harford County Detention Center for processing. Court records show McArthur was being held on $75,000 bail.

According to Petz, the Dodge Ram was located on Bourbon Street around 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday. He said the suspects got rid of it for reasons that were unknown.

In both cases, Petz said the owners had left their vehicles running and unlocked.
