HdG Under Winter Weather Advisory

With snow on the way, the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the greater Baltimore area, including Havre de Grace.

A winter weather advisory means that snow may cause travel difficulties.

“Snowfall and freezing temperatures could result in hazardous driving conditions,” the Harford County Office of Emergency Management said. “Motorists should allow extra time for the morning commute.”

The heaviest snowfall will most likely be from 6 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service, which said 1 to 3 inches of snow are in the forecast for Havre de Grace.

If heavy snow occurs during the morning rush hour, the State Highway Administration—which began salting roads Monday—advised delaying travel.

The winter weather advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

The following areas are included in the advisory: Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties; the District of Columbia; and parts of Virginia.

Cecil County is under a winter weather advisory from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Winter Driving Safety Tips from State Highway Administration

• Go slow in ice and snow.
• Do not pass plows.
• Pack a winter survival kit with blanket, fully charged cell phone, jumper cables, shovel and ice scraper.
• Approach intersections where traffic signals are out like a four-way stop; then proceed when safe.
