HdG Halloween Weekend Events: Howl-o-Ween, Pumpkin Carving

A Halloween-themed farmers market, costume contest for pets and more are on tap in Havre de Grace this weekend.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Halloween is different due to the coronavirus, but in Havre de Grace there are plenty of activities this weekend. From costume contests for pets and pooches to movies to get people in the spirit, here is what is on tap.

Trick o' Treating In Havre de Grace And Costume Contest — Get your costume judged by Havre de Grace Parks & Recreation personnel at the Havre de Grace Visitor Center at 450 Pennington Avenue from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. Then go trick-or-treating downtown, where more than 40 businesses will be giving away goodies. Find the list of participating locations at the Visitors Center or look for signs in the windows of businesses. Among those with offerings for trick-or-treaters will be the American Legion at 501 St. John Street, where treats will be on the porch.

"Hocus Pocus" Movie Night At The Seaplane Base — The film will be screened from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at 321 St. John Street. Tickets are $5 and are being sold on Eventbrite through the State Theater of Havre de Grace.

"Casper: The Friendly Ghost" Free Movie NightWatch the movie under the stars at the VFW Post 8126 at 300 Lodge Lane, which will provide free popcorn. Don't forget your lawn chair. The movie begins at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 410-939-4578.

"Rogue Swan" Free Livestream — The Havre de Grace Opera House will host this virtual presentation from 8 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30.

Havre de Haunts — Every Friday and Saturday in Havre de Grace through Nov. 7, people can take these haunted history tours. Tours are 1.5 hours and begin at Concord Point Coffee, rain or shine. Departure is 7 p.m. Tickets are sold out for Friday, Oct. 30. They are$13 in advance or $14 at the door. Kids 12 and under are $10, while those under 6 are free. Military tickets are $10 with ID. Carving Candy at the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum — Carve a pumpkin or paint one with a decoy carver. People must register for a time slot and practice social distancing, mask usage and handwashing. Times are 11 a.m.-12 p.m., 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 2-3 p.m. Each session involves carving a pumpkin and touring the museum to look for hidden rubber ducks for candy. Buy tickets, which are $6 per person. Twelve children per session will be allowed at the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum, 215 Giles Street.

Howl-o-Ween Tails and Treats Pet Fest at the Concord Point LighthouseDogs can compete for prizes during a costume contest from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. The pet costume parade is at 3 p.m. and costs $1 to enter. There will be a $1 dog treat raffle and $1 children's activities, including crafts. The event is at 700 Concord Street near the Concord Point Lighthouse.

Halloween Farmers Market — Visit the weekly farmers market for a spooky treat. From 8:30 to noon on Saturday, Oct. 31, vendors will celebrate with mini pumpkin painting at Hutchins Park, 121 St. John Street. Before the market closes in mid-November, stock up on spirits, soaps, meats and oils.
