Hotel Fire in Aberdeen Under Investigation: Fire Marshal

The fire was discovered by a security guard Tuesday night, officials said.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal said authorities were investigating a fire at the Hilton Garden Inn in Aberdeen discovered Tuesday night.

A security guard found the fire, which started in a plastic receptacle used by housekeeping to store towels, at approximately 10:58 p.m. Tuesday, according to the fire marshal's report.

There was not enough heat and smoke to trigger the fire alarm at the five-story hotel on Beards Hill Road, the fire marshal reported.

Six firefighters from Aberdeen Fire Department responded and had the fire under control within one minute, according to the report.

The fire marshal said the blaze caused $50 in damage.

An arson was committed at the same hotel in the housekeeping department in November, causing $500 in damage. A man described as a "disgruntled employee" was charged in that incident. He was arrested April 4 and released, with a trial scheduled for June 17 in Harford County District Court.

Tuesday night's fire remains under investigation, according to the fire marshal's office, which asked anyone with information to contact the Office
State Fire Marshal at 410-836-4844.
