Immersive Playground Proposed for Tydings Park: PHOTOS

Recommendations for what to do with the future of Tydings include a new playground.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD – A playground capped with a miniature Concord Point Lighthouse is part of the plan that the Tydings Park Commission presented at a recent city council meeting in showing its vision for the future of the park.

Minimizing stress on the park from festivals and events and making it more walkable were two priorities, according to Councilman Michael Hitchings. Another proposition was to revitalize the gazebo and expand it.

“We really want to encourage a better walking environment in the park," Hitchings said. He said that plans call for increasing the handicap accessibility, connecting the different parts of the park and the Promenade and adding plaques that tell Havre de Grace history along the walkways.

“It's very important to get people up and moving and keep them moving while they're in the park," Hitchings said.

The commission recommended an engineering study as a next step and encouraged the city to seek grants to fund the construction of the playground, which will include features like the "Rock-n-Ship" that allows special needs children a safe place to play.

The commission came up with more than 300 pages of a final report, which will be available online once it is compressed into a format online that is accessible to the public.
