Vehicle Fire on I-95 at O'Donnell Street Slowed Evening Rush

A vehicle fire with heavy smoke shut down one side of the highway Thursday.

Lane closures were in effect on Interstate 95 north for two hours Thursday evening due to a vehicle fire, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

The fire was reported at 6:23 p.m. on I-95 north past O'Donnell Street, according to the Coordinated Highways Action Response Team.

WBAL reported the fire began in the rear of a bus.

All 35 passengers got out safely and were taken to nearby businesses to wait for another bus, according to ABC 2 News.

Officials said at 6:40 p.m. that firefighters were at the scene extinguishing the fire. At 6:51 p.m., the Maryland Transportation Authority said the fire was out and traffic was being detoured back onto O'Donnell.

By 8:30 p.m., all lanes had reopened, transportation officials reported.
