Hatem Bridge Crash Clears After Jaws Of Life Rescue: Officials

A serious crash snarled traffic on the Hatem Bridge Monday night, officials advised.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — One person was trapped in a crash on US 40 east near the entrance to the Hatem Bridge Monday night, according to the Susquehanna Hose Company. The fire company's crews used the jaws of life to rescue the victim.

Traffic was snarled for approximately 45 minutes during the emergency response, officials said.

After 6 p.m., first responders said they were at the scene removing the passenger door from a vehicle with the "jaws of life" tool to rescue someone who was trapped.

All lanes of Route 40 east were closed, the Maryland Transportation Authority reported.

By 6:20 p.m., the victim was out of the vehicle and in the care of emergency medical personnel, according to the Susquehanna Hose Company.

By 6:45 p.m., authorities said the road had reopened, and Route 40 was clear.
