John Martin Hoover, 69, of Havre de Grace

Hoover was a sailboat salesman and member of the Coast Guard.

John Martin Hoover, 69, of Havre de Grace, passed away on Dec. 20, 2015, at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace.

Born in Havre de Grace, he was the son of the late Charles Handley and Alma Emanuela (Bem) Hoover. A veteran of the Coast Guard, he was a sailboat salesman. Sailing was his passion in life and he received the “Dave Phillips” award from the Havre de Grace Yacht Club where he was a member. He also belonged to the Maryland Marina Yacht Club in Middle River and volunteered, along with his wife, at the lighthouse in Havre de Grace, where he helped in fundraising and was known for his “Nova Scotia Santa.”

He was a graduate of Bel Air High School, enjoyed crafts and his pug dogs.

Mr. Hoover is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Faye (Barnhill) Hoover; son, Christopher A. Hoover and wife Angela of Bel Air; step-son, James A. Martin of Havre de Grace; brothers, Charles C. Hoover and wife Deborah of Bel Air and F. Scott Hoover and wife Debbie of Madison, AL; grandchildren, Aubrey and Cassidy Hoover; nephews, David, Ryan and Dustin Hoover; loving cousin, Lorraine Bem; and former wife, Lynda Dinka Thurston.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at McComas Funeral Home, 50 W. Broadway, in
Bel Air.

A memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at McComas Funeral Home, 50 W. Broadway,
Bel Air.
