Kayaker Missing Despite Search on Susquehanna

Emergency personnel said one boater was found safely after report of overturned kayak.

One kayaker was found and another was unaccounted for Wednesday morning after hours of searching the Susquehanna River, according to emergency personnel.

Maryland State Police aviation and rescue boats responded to a report Tuesday night of an overturned kayak with multiple people in the water, the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association reported.

At 10 p.m., the Susquehanna Hose Company was dispatched to the Cecil County side of the river to provide mutual aid.

One kayaker was found and did not require medical attention, according to the association.

A second kayaker remained unaccounted for after a search until 1:38 a.m. Wednesday, at which point the Water Witch Volunteer Fire Company called off the effort.

Units that assisted in the search included Maryland State Police, Natural Resources Police, Water Witch, Susquehanna Hose, Darlington and the Harford County Technical Rescue Team, according to the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.
