Man Flown To Hospital After Fire Breaks Out In Havre De Grace Home

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — A fire broke out Monday night in the bedroom of a home located in the 800 block of North Adams Street, officials said.

A 64-year-old man who lived at the home was airlifted by Maryland State Police Medevac for treatment of smoke inhalation, the Susquehanna Hose Company reported. The resident and a neighbor discovered the fire while outside the home, talking, when they smelled smoke. The owner went inside to check out the smell and found the fire burning in a back bedroom.

Firefighters from the Susquehanna Hose Company, along with mutual aid provided by four other fire departments, were called to the home shortly after 7:30 p.m. They found smoke coming out of the one-story home and heavy fire from the back of the structure that was threateningly close to a neighboring home. Firefighters were able to protect the next-door home and prevent the fire from spreading into it.

Loss has been estimated at $200,000.

The fire is still under investigation by the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal, which stated that an electrical fire cannot be ruled out.
