Man Reportedly Killed by Freight Train in Aberdeen

The crash happened near Advance Auto Parts, officials said.

A man was reportedly killed in what police said was a suicide by train in Aberdeen overnight.

First responders found a pedestrian who was hit by a train behind Advance Auto Parts in Aberdeen after midnight Sunday, the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association reported. The auto parts store is located in the 200 block of South Philadelphia Boulevard.

Aberdeen police said the Norfolk Southern freight train hit the man before midnight in what was believed to have been a suicide, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Suicides on the tracks are increasing in Maryland this year, according to the Federal Railroad Administration. The administration reports that there was one confirmed suicide on train tracks statewide in 2013—that was in December. Between January and April 2014, there were three suicides on Maryland train tracks, according to railroad officials.
