MAROON MONDAY: Can Warriors Keep Susquehanna Bowl?

Havre de Grace hosts Perryville at 6:30 p.m.

The -opener for Havre de Grace probably left Greg Long with a few new grey hairs.

The Warriors watched as his squad eked out an 8-7 win against Elkton on a Justin Gosnell touchdown followed by Lavell McCullers' two-point conversion late in the fourth quarter.

Havre de Grace likely will need more offensive firepower this week when Perryville visits for a 7 p.m. kickoff Monday. All of the due to flooding along the Susquehanna River.

Warriors Storylines

1. Keeping the Bowl. Havre de Grace is looking to keep the Susquehanna Bowl on the Harford County side of the river. Last year, the Warriors defeated Perryville with relative ease on the road. The rivalry with Perryville may pale in comparison to the Aberdeen game for Havre de Grace, but there is plenty of history in this matchup.

2. Protecting the ball. Lavell McCullers converted a huge two-point conversion to win the opener against Elkton. But the sophomore quarterback turned the ball over too often—three interceptions—in his first varsity start. Havre de Grace has to maintain possession. Last year, the Warriors could get away with turnovers because of a quick-strike, explosive offense. McCullers has the potential to generate that high-octane attack, but eliminating mistakes will be key.

3. Keeping up. The Warriors were never the less-athletic team in 2010. This year may be a different story. Havre de Grace may surrender athleticism to Perryville in this meeting. The Panthers are loaded with talent, and proved in Week 1 that they'll have no trouble putting points on the board.

What They're Saying

The Aegis’ Inky Webb calls for a 28-12 Panthers win.

(Last week: Webb predicted a 30-20 Elkton victory.)

The Record’s Shad Roe predicts a Panthers win:

The Susky Bowl is here again, and this time the Warriors are hosting. The two teams' week-one results could not have been more different, as the Warriors eked out a one-point victory over Elkton, while Perryville thrashed Kent, 53-8. It's a tough one, but I'm going with the Panthers to walk away winners. The pick: Perryville tops Havre de Grace, 18-14.

(Last week: Roe predicted a 28-14 Warriors win.)

Patch Says

The Warriors had some momentum coming out of Week 1, but so do the Panthers. Perryville is too athletic for Havre de Grace. Perryville 28, Warriors 18

(Last week: Patch predicted an 18-12 Warriors win.)
