Maryland Transportation Forecast for Monday, Tuesday

Transportation officials are encouraging Marylanders to plan ahead, since the snow event is not over. A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

MONDAY: The Maryland State Highway Administration is encouraging drivers to stay off the roads if possible for the Monday afternoon and evening commute.

“Weather forecasts call for the snow, sleet and rain to continue throughout the day,” Jessica Puchala of the State Highway Administration said Monday afternoon. “If you can avoid travel in these uncertain weather conditions, that’s best.” To those venturing out, highway officials urge motorists to clear off their vehicles, and “please don’t forget the roof and the headlights,” Puchala said.

TUESDAY: Authorities are asking that drivers hitting the road Tuesday prepare ahead of time and take an emergency kit. Also, fill up so there’s a tank of gas in the car and a charged-up cell phone.

“Tuesday morning, allow plenty of extra time to properly clean off your vehicle before heading out on the roads,” Ragina Cooper Averella of AAA Mid-Atlantic said.

“If at all possible, wait until the storm has passed and roads are plowed and sanded before venturing out. If you have to be out, drive with caution and give road crews plenty of room to do their job safely,” Averella said.

Prepare an emergency kit that includes an ice scraper, shovel, de-icer and sand/kitty litter; blanket, gloves, hat and coat; snacks and beverages; and a charged cell phone.

Look for incidents on state roads from the Maryland Department of Transportation.
