MDTA Says Toll Reductions Will Not Affect Service
Officials say finances, safety are secure as millions of dollars in tolls rolled back at governor's request.

As Gov. Larry Hogan announced his rollback of toll rates across Maryland, transportation officials said that it will not affect the ability for state agencies to maintain its facilities.
“I have thoroughly reviewed the toll-reduction plan, and I’m confident the MDTA will continue to maintain its sound financial footing and commitment to safety and quality services,” said Maryland Transportation Authority (MTDA) Chair and Transportation Secretary Pete K. Rahn said in a statement.
The MDTA board found efficiencies in its capital and operating budgets that would make the rollback possible, according to the statement.

“A lot of hard work went into the development of this proposal, and I’d like to thank MDTA board members for their careful analysis and approval of this toll-reduction plan,” Rahn said.
Many of the reductions provide discounts for those with E-ZPass accounts, increasing savings from 10 percent to up to 37.5 percent, the statement said.

“If you turned in your E-ZPass years ago because of the monthly maintenance fee, it’s time to come back,” MDTA Executive Director Bruce W. Gartner said.
