We met Ana while she was visiting the United States through the Orphan Hope International Host Program. This program brought 19 children who were currently living in different orphanages across the country of Colombia to the United States for a “vacation”. They were then able to meet families in the community to increase awareness of the need for older child adoption. We met the children and felt God was leading us to help the children by giving Ana a forever home. Ana had been living in an orphanage and was considered “special needs” simply because of her advanced age. She was 11 years old at the time. Ana is a healthy older child who is very well adjusted, especially considering everything she has been through.
We currently have 3 children; Aidan age 10, Collin age 13, and Ana now age 14. Ana is a delightful child who has been a wonderful addition to our family. Ana has experienced many firsts since she arrived. Most recently we took the children to Disney in Florida for a family vacation. Ana was able to meet all the Disney princesses, getting a photo and autograph from each of them. After the vacation was over Ana created a picture collage of her princess visits and entitled it “It is never too late!” I think that sentence captures her feelings on her ability to have a forever family as well as her opportunity to meet the princesses.
