Opera in HdG to Support Opera House Renovation Project

The 75-minute opera will be staged a few doors down from the old opera house on Union Avenue.

Two organizations are joining together to put on a show that will benefit the old Havre de Grace Opera House on Union Avenue.

OPERAtunity Maryland and the Harford Choral Society will present Cavalleria Rusticana, an opera in one act, on Nov. 8, according to Havre de Grace Tourism.

Local and regional singers will perform the 75-minute love story.

Tickets are $25 for the show and $30 for a ticket plus access to a reception to meet performers and foundation members. Tickets are available online or at the Havre de Grace Visitor Center, 450 Pennington Avenue, and at Preston’s Stationery in Bel Air, 319 South Main Street.

The performance will be presented at the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 South Union Avenue, a few doors down from the opera house building, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8.

Proceeds from a silent auction the night of the opera will go toward the old opera house’s renovation. A campaign has been established in support of the project, with a fundraising goal of $3 million by April 2015. The foundation has already raised $1 million.
