The bear was a danger to public safety, according to the Havre de Grace Police Department.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Officers euthanized a bear in Havre de Grace Saturday after police said the animal visited a high-traffic area in the city. Authorities got involved after someone reported the creature was in the yard. Police later killed the bear near the Promenade, officials said.
Officers were called to the 700 block of Union Avenue Saturday for a report of a bear on the property, but police said when officers arrived, they could not find the bear. Instead, the animal was on the move, headed toward Harford Memorial Hospital.
While officers searched for the bear, they let citizens know about the sighting.
