Preparations Begin

It's now the 1st week of July, and the girls will be here SOON!! We are busy getting ready. A friend has offered us a twin mattress so we can set up an additional bed in Daniela's room. (Thanks Kara! Thanks, Dani!) Flip flops are on their way (Yay Wendy!), and plans are under way for an excursion to the Red Zone for Laser Tag (You're the best, Laurie!). We have a special surprise planned for Monica... more on that later.

But most importantly, we are trying to get the word out about the girls and their need for a forever family. This is probably their last chance to be adopted together. When I was talking about Monica, Diana and Jeimy with some folks yesterday, I heard some great advice: Share success stories. How often in the news do we see that this family adopted that child and it went so great?? And how often do we read about an adoption horror story? I think the number of success stories far outweigh the disrupted adoptions, but we just don't hear about them very much. I think some people might see the news stories of this mom abusing her adopted son, or that kid killing the family pet, and they might be fearful of disrupting their family in a negative way. To be sure, adopting does disrupt! But many folks with whom I've chatted wouldn't have it any other way. Isn't it like that when we give birth to children in our families?

So in this blog leading up to the girls' arrival, I will feature the success stories of some different folks who have adopted older kids. Many have blogged their journey (and a link will be provided), so you'll be able to learn more about them if you want. And of course, please feel free to comment here and ask whatever questions you like!
