Rec Football Already on the Minds of Some in HdG
Registration and growth are topics of youth football chatter in Havre de Grace

This may be the time that many sports fans are thinking about the college basketball tournaments and whether or not the Orioles might finally find some success. But for others in Havre de Grace, some of their thoughts are actually turning towards football.
The Havre de Grace program in the Upper Chesapeake Youth Football League is getting ready for the 2011 season already. They have set up registration dates—starting in a few weeks—for their program this fall, hoping that their program is going to build upon last season's success.
Brian Eberhardt is the program’s president, and he said that returning players can come for registration on March 21 at the Havre de Grace Activities Center from 6-8:30 p.m.

Havre de Grace also will hold an open registration on March 22 and April 14. Those will also take place at the Havre de Grace Activities Center from 6-8:30 p.m.
Last fall, Havre de Grace had a total of nine teams in various age groups and about 180 players overall. League officials believe that they’ll be getting more players interested in playing for Havre de Grace this season.

“We’re expecting to have more this year,” Eberhardt said. “[That’s] based on the inquiries we’ve gotten from the BRAC families coming in.”
Eberhardt said that those are the only three days Havre de Grace plans on holding registration at this time, but if there’s more interest, they’d certainly look at scheduling additional ones.
Havre de Grace fared very well last fall in the UCYFL’s first season. The Warriors sent three teams to the championship round and won two titles.
The 8-10, 9-11 and 10-12 teams all made it to the finals. The 9-11 and 10-12 teams came away with championships in the league’s inaugural season.
