Richard Holly, 70, Longtime HHS Teacher and Community Leader

Richard Holly died Feb. 28, 2017. He was 70.

"Rich was a leader in our community who made us laugh, smile and most importantly challenged us as students and citizens," according to a statement from the city of Havre de Grace.

He taught for more than 40 years at Havre de Grace High School, instructing students in business, math, physical education and technology, plus coaching multiple sports.

"When Rich was not teaching, he was busy participating in numerous volunteer organizations, including Community Projects of Havre de Grace, the Winter Wonderland Committee, the Citizens Against Trash Club and volunteering to serve Thanksgiving dinner to those in need," the statement from the city said. "His sacrifice to our community was selfless. We are forever grateful for the time we spent with Rich and thankful for the lessons he taught us. We would also like to express our deepest condolences to the Holly family."

There will be a visitation from 1–4 p.m. and 6–9 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, at Zellman Funeral Home, 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD 21078.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 6, at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 S. Union Ave., Havre de Grace, MD 21078. Pastor Norman Obenshain will officiate.
