Revenue Spikes at Hollywood Casino after Live Table Games Open

The Perryville casino surpassed others in Maryland in month-to-month slots revenue increases for March 2013.

Slots revenue at Hollywood Casino increased after live table games were added to its offerings in March.

The Maryland Lottery reported that the Perryville casino's slots revenue was up by 34 percent from February to March, after it introduced live table games like roulette and craps on March 6.

Overall, slots revenue in Maryland rose by 18 percent between March and February.

Here's a look at the slots revenue for each casino in February and March:

Casino revenue was distributed to a variety of places, including horse racing purse accounts, local impact grants and small and minority businesses.

The breakdown of distribution for slots revenue was as follows: $18.67 million to casinos; $27.86 million to the Education Trust Fund; $3.96 million to horse racing purse accounts; $3.11 million to local impact grants; $990,000 to racetrack renewals; $1.13 million to the Maryland Lottery; and $848,739 to small, minority and women-owned businesses.

Hollywood Casino Perryville generated $9,486,110.07 from both slot machines and table games in March; table games accounted for $1,465,763.

Of its table games revenue, Hollywood Casino gave $293,152 to the Education Trust Fund, with $1,172,610 retained by the casino.

Under legislation passed last year and approved by voters in November, casino operators keep a larger share of table games revenue than slots revenue.

Hollywood Casino in Perryville was the first in the state to roll out live table games after Maryland voters approved of expanded gambling. Table games will be introduced at Maryland Live! in Anne Arundel County on April 11.

Daily, Hollywood Casino in Perryville grossed $225.37 for slot machines; $3,659.33 for banking table games, of which it has 12; and $1,296.94 for non-banking table games, of which it has eight, according to the Maryland Lottery.

In a year-to-year comparison, Hollywood Casino’s March 2013 revenue decreased by $4.24 million, or 34.57 percent, from March 2012.

Excluding Maryland Live!, which opened in June 2012, casino revenue dropped $4,368,688, or about 27 percent, compared with March of last year.
