Smoke on Concord Street No Cause for Alarm: City Officials

The Havre de Grace Department of Public Works said firefighters would be at the scene.

There may be smoke coming from a vacant property on Concord Street this week, where the Susquehanna Hose Company will be conducting training, according to the Havre de Grace Department of Public Works.

Firefighters will bring emergency vehicles, equipment and personnel to a training site at 701 Concord Street, where they plan to conduct an exercise that public works officials said could generate non-hazardous smoke.

"Do not be alarmed—this is part of the firefighters' training plan," according to public works.

Training is planned for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The property belongs to the city of Havre de Grace. Voters approved the city's purchase of the property at 701 Concord Street from former city councilman Steve Gamatoria for $1.29 million when the issue went to referendum last spring. The property will be used to extend the Promenade, according to plans the mayor presented last year.
