Maryland State Police announce DUI checkpoint in Harford County slated for Thursday, May 5.

JOPPA, MD – Celebrating Cinco de Mayo? Get your designated driver lined up before you hit the margaritas or the tequila.

Maryland State Police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on the ramp from Interstate 95 to MD 152 for the occasion.

The checkpoint will start at 11 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, according to police.

Troopers from the JFK, Bel Air and North East barracks will join deputies from the Harford County Sheriff's Office for a press conference at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday at the MD 152 park and ride before the checkpoint begins.

Police said the initiative is part of the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign.

One of several states in the region participating in Checkpoint Strikeforce, Maryland has committed to holding a checkpoint at least monthly from January to June and weekly July to December to take impaired drivers off the road.

In Maryland, the legal limit for blood alcohol consumption and driving is .08 percent.
