Southern Living Ranks Havre de Grace Among Best Small Towns For Retirement

Do you think Havre de Grace is one of the best places to retire? A national magazine says it is a hot spot for retirees.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Southern Living magazine has ranked Havre de Grace among the "Best Small Towns In the South for Retirement."

Here is what the magazine said about it, making sure to give readers a pronunciation lesson:

"Haverty-grace" sits on the banks of the Susquehanna River with its decoy, maritime, and history museums (General Lafayette visited town several times). Retirees come here for the waterfront views, local festivals, and Pete Dye golf.

According to census data for the city of Havre de Grace, people 65 years and older account for 13.9 percent of the population. The city contained 12,952 people in the 2010 census.
