Spa Bellezza Delivers Relaxation on Stokes Street

Manicures, pedicures, massages and facials are now available out of a home in Havre de Grace.

Spa Bellezza, located in a two-story house at 205 N. Stokes Street, celebrated its grand opening Friday morning.

Havre de Grace Mayor Wayne Dougherty, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cathy Vincenti and other city officials welcomed Spa Bellezza owner Carla Hannon on her first day of business in the city. 

Hannon is a plastic surgery nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital who bought the house in 2004 when she was thinking of turning it into an assisted living facility.

But Hannon, who is also a licensed cosmetologist and psychologist, said, "I couldn't do it 24 hours a day" and such a business would require round-the-clock staffing. Instead, Hannon decided to offer care to people no matter what stage of life they were in, opting for a spa instead.

She rehabbed the house, giving it what she calls a "Tuscan theme." When customers walk in, nail stations are front and center in an open space. Pedicure stations sit in an alcove with a sign above them encouraging people to relax. In the back is the massage room that smells like essential oils. The second floor of the house currently acts as storage space, Hannon said, but the business could expand in the future.

Spa Bellezza is located at 205 N. Stokes Street. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday to Saturday; however, times may vary so customers are advised to call 410-939-1557 or visit the spa’s website for more information.
