WHITE HALL, MD — The Mill Agronomy recently celebrated the opening of its new state-of-the-art dry mix fertilizer facility, the first of its kind in Maryland in at least 15 years.

Local farmers, community partners and county officials gathered for the grand opening of the 12,000-square-foot facility, which doubles The Mill's fertilizer storage capacity to 2,000 tons and can triple outbound loading capacity to as much as 100 tons per hour.

It also has a Doyle AutoBatch mixer operated by computer that can automatically pull and blend fertilizers to create custom mixes.

The Mill is a family-owned and operated business founded in 1957 as Reckord Mill; it was later renamed Bel Air Farm Supply by H. Smith Walter. In 1986, Henry Holloway, Smith Walter's grandson, took over and today, he and his wife, along with three of their four children, own and operate the eight-location agricultural retail business.

While The Mill is based in Maryland, there is a Pennsylvania location and the delivery team services customers in Delaware, southern New Jersey, southern Pennsylvania, eastern West Virginia, northern Virginia and the entire state of Maryland.

Three of the locations also work with local farmers for their seed, fertilizer and chemical needs, as well as custom agronomy applications.

"The turnout at the grand opening of The Mill's new fertilizer plant at Black Horse was incredible and a reminder of exactly why we do this. Seeing so many growers, partners and community members walk through those doors and experience what we have built means everything to The Mill agronomy team," the company stated on social media.

The facility was built, in part, through a $1 million cost-share grant from the state’s Build Our Future Grant Pilot Program and Fund, which provides grants for infrastructure projects in eligible sectors.
