State, Local Officials Celebrate Harris Stadium Completion

After more than a decade of work, the Harris Stadium at Havre de Grace High School moved "across the goal line," Harford County Executive David Craig said at a dedication ceremony Friday.

Craig joined state and local officials in dedicating the stadium to James Harris.

Speaking at the event, which was held on the field, were Chief of Administration for Harford County Public Schools Joseph Licata, Havre de Grace High School Principal Jim Reynolds, Havre de Grace Choral Director David Tramontana, Maryland State Delegate Mary-Dulany James, Havre de Grace Mayor Wayne Dougherty and City Council President Randolph Craig. 

The concept for the stadium project came about in 1997, according to Volney Ford, board president of Community Projects of Havre de Grace Inc., the organization that coordinated the project and lined up funding. Members of the organization's board were recognized at the Oct. 4 ceremony, as were members of the Harris family.

After the ceremony, the Havre de Grace Warriors football team took on the North Harford Hawks during a 7 p.m. matchup.
