Susquehanna Hose Company Navigates Tricky Water Rescue

The victim had been fishing and was reportedly attached to his sinking boat.

After a fisherman fell in the Chesapeake Bay Tuesday morning, the Susquehanna Hose Company came to his rescue, according to Chief Scott Hurst.

At 11:46 a.m. on Tuesday, the Susquehanna Hose Company reported that it responded to a call for a person in the water near Tydings Park.

Volunteers were at the scene within minutes of the alert, according to Hurst, who said the victim was a middle-aged man who had been fishing.

As the crew attempted to pull the man aboard the rescue boat, members realized he had a hook through his hand, which was attached to a sinking kayak, the Susquehanna Hose Company reported.

First responders disconnected the lure from the kayak using wire cutters, then pulled the man into the boat and returned him to shore, according to the hose company's report.

The man was evaluated for hypothermia and his hand injury, the report said.

After receiving emergency medical services at the scene, the man refused transport for his injuries, Hurst said.

Susquehanna Hose Company reported that its crew returned the man's kayak to shore before clearing the scene.
