Teen Allegedly Sets Fire to Grandparents's Home

The 13-year-old was playing with matches in Battery Drive townhome.

A 13-year-old Havre de Grace boy was charged with first-degree arson after allegedly playing with matches in his grandparents's home Wednesday morning.

A fire broke out in the boy's bedroom in a two-story, center-unit townhome in the 400 block of Battery Drive around 10:10 a.m., causing approximately $1,500 damage.

The fire was extinguished by the Susquehanna Hose Company shortly after arriving on the scene, according to a news release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

The boy was also charged with second-degree malicious burning. He was referred to Harford County Juvenile Services and released to his grandparents.

No working smoke alarms were located in the residence during the investigation.
