Tractor-Trailer Crashed Near Toll Booth at Fort McHenry Tunnel

The driver of the tractor-trailer appeared to be at fault, Maryland Transportation Authority Police said.

Several lanes on Interstate 95 south were closed Tuesday night at the Fort McHenry Tunnel after a tractor-trailer crashed and began leaking fuel, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the tractor-trailer hit a pickup truck, crushing it in the toll lane, according to WBAL. A third vehicle was hit by the trailer portion of the tractor-trailer, Sgt. Jonathan Green, spokesman for Maryland Transportation Authority Police, said.

The crash resulted in the closure of four toll lanes due to a fuel spill, the Maryland Transportation Authority reported.

Approximately 20 gallons of diesel fuel leaked, according to The Baltimore Sun.

While a tow truck and sweepers had cleared two of the lanes by 8:30 p.m., two lanes remained closed overnight as a result of the incident, the Maryland Transportation Authority reported.

There were no injuries to the drivers or the toll booth personnel, Green said.

Preliminarily, it appears the driver of the tractor-trailer was at fault, Green told Patch Wednesday. He said it was too early for charges or damage estimates.
