Truck Fire Under Investigation On Superior Street

Fire marshal said arson is suspected in former city councilman's truck blaze.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD – A former city councilman's truck was set ablaze this week near the Hatem Bridge, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Authorities said the fire began on the driver's side of the 2012 Ford F-450 extended cab truck, which was found in the 300 block of Superior Street. The fire started outside the vehicle and was believed to have been intentionally set.

Truck owner Charles Maslin reported the vehicle as stolen after police notified him, according to the fire marshal.

Members of the Susquehanna Hose Company responded to the blaze after an area resident reported it at 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, and brought it under control in 15 minutes.

There was $25,000 in damage to the truck, according to the fire marshal.

Maslin served on the Havre de Grace city council from 1996 to 1997 until he was forced to leave his position due to a molestation conviction, The Aegis reported.
