2 Hospitalized from Hunt Valley House Fire: Officials

A home north of Cockeysville was engulfed in flames Monday morning, Baltimore County authorities report.

HUNT VALLEY, MD -- A man and woman in their 80s were hospitalized as the result of a Monday morning house fire north of Cockeysville, according to Baltimore County public safety officials.

Firefighters found the couple at a home in the 300 block of Western Run Road upon responding at 12:23 a.m. Monday for a fire, according to the report.

The entire house was in flames when authorities arrived, and a second alarm was activated—meaning additional personnel were called—at 12:51 a.m., the report stated.

An 85-year-old man was taken by Maryland State Police helicopter to the Johns Hopkins Burn Center, where officials said he was in critical condition with serious burns.

An 80-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation, officials reported.

Authorities said the blaze was brought under control at 2:06 a.m.

Firefighters returned to the scene to tend to hot spots, where fire still lingered, Fox 45 reported after 9:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday morning.
