Best Friends Fur Ever Launches New Pet Pantry to Help Pets Owners Who Are Experiencing Financial Hardship

COCKEYSVILLE and JOPPA, MD – September 22, 2026 – As rising costs put pressure on families, many pet owners are struggling to afford the basics, including food for their dogs. To help ensure that temporary financial hardship never becomes a reason to surrender a beloved pet, Best Friends Fur Ever (BFFE) today announced the launch of its new Pet Food Pantry.

The Pet Food Pantry will provide temporary assistance to Maryland families facing financial hardship by collecting donated dog food and distributing it through trusted community partners, with an initial focus on Harford and Baltimore counties.

"A temporary financial setback should never mean losing a lifelong companion," said Mary Steinebrunner, president of Best Friends Fur Ever. "Our goal is simple: help keep pets where they belong, with the families who love them. Every bag of donated food has the potential to relieve stress for a family and prevent unnecessary surrender."

The pantry accepts unopened bags of dry dog food, unopened canned dog food, and unopened dog treats. Donations will be distributed through local nonprofit partners and community outreach organizations serving pet owners experiencing temporary financial hardship.

By helping families weather difficult times, the program aims to reduce unnecessary owner surrenders and keep more dogs safely at home.

Donations may be dropped off during normal business hours (6:15 a.m.–6:30 p.m.) at Best Friends Fur Ever's Cockeysville and Joppa locations.

"Too many families are forced to make heartbreaking decisions simply because they're struggling to afford pet food," Steinebrunner said. "We believe that no one should have to choose between feeding their family and keeping their best friend."
