Black Friday’s a Bust
I'm taking a pass on the official first chaotic day of the holiday shopping season.

I have a patently un-American confession to make: I am not a shopper.
I know practically everyone else will be out shopping that day, and I know that Uncle Sam probably wants me to be spending money to boost the economy, and I also know that there are some amazing deals to be had and I’ll surely spend more money on the same items when I shop later.
Yet I won’t be getting up in the wee hours (at least no wee-er than usual with two kids under the age of four) on November 25 to partake in the . Even before having children and relinquishing my ability to get up and go shopping whenever the mood strikes me, I wasn’t much of an aficionado of the so-called door-buster deals.

While I’m a Type-A hand-wringer about way too many things, I am not much of a competitive shopper. I don’t like all the traffic, and then having to jockey for parking spaces in crowded lots or the Towson Town Center mall parking garage. I don’t like pawing through racks of clothes or shelves of toys. And I’m not keen on waiting in line. If I wasn’t inclined to do all that on past Black Fridays, I’m even more disinterested this year when Friday will be for sitting around the house, with a few helpings of leftovers on the side.
All that said, I suppose that I won’t be able to resist doing a little bit of shopping online on Friday if any cyber sales catch my eye. I don’t know about you, but the steady trickle of emailed special offers into my inbox has turned into a flood since ended. So I know I’ll be sifting through a few cyber deals.
