Greater Baltimore Medical Center Earns Prestigious Certification

Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) announced that it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

GBMC underwent a rigorous onsite review in January. Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with advanced disease-specific care standards and total hip and total knee replacement requirements, including orthopedic consultation, and pre-operative, intraoperative and post-surgical orthopedic surgeon follow-up care.

The two-year certification from The Joint Commission assists GBMC with providing consistent communication and collaboration of all health care providers involved in the care of our patients from the orthopedic consultation through the follow-up visit to the orthopedic surgeon.

Established in 2016 and awarded for a two-year period, the advanced certification was developed in response to the growing number of patients undergoing a total hip or total knee replacement surgery, as well as the increased focus on clinical evidence-based patient care as it relates to pain management, quality of life issues, functional limitation in mobility and the return to normal daily activities.
