Laissez-Faire Owner Revamps Business

The store will now exclusively host furniture vendors.

, a Cockeysville business that opened in May, has extended its hours and will now host only furniture vendors.

Previously, Laissez-Faire enabled to sell their wares without the hassle of managing their own storefront. But soon enough, owner Cathy Johnson realized that it's the furniture vendors who are the most successful and decided to exclusively host them.

"The store was a furniture store for 20 years before Laissez-Faire existed," Johnson said. "I think people are just used to that."

And the vision isn't the only thing changing at . Johnson  said business has been booming, so she decided to extend store hours. When Laissez-Faire first premiered, it was only open for a three-day weekend every third week of each month. Now, the store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

, a business owned by Johnson's daughter Brittany Johnson, is also seeing some changes. The boutique, which was previously located next door to Laissez-Faire, has merged its business into the Laissez-Faire storefront. Shamelessly Simple will occupy the front end of the store, and Laissez-Faire, the back. The Johnson family owns the strip mall, located in the 10700 block of York Road.

Johnson said the storefront previously occupied by Shamelessly Simple is available for a new tenant.

To celebrate the changes, Johnson will be hosting a Ladies' Night tailgate at Laissez-Faire/Shamelessly Simple on Sept. 22 from 5 to 9 p.m. The event will feature half-priced eyebrow waxes from La Papillion Spa, palm readings and a meet and greet with furniture vendors such as Pink Pretty Peonies and The Urban Nest. In addition, Laissez-Faire will be offering 10 percent off all furniture, and Shamelessly Simple will provide a 20 percent discount on tailgating merchandise.

"It's just been amazing," Johnson said. "[Laissez-Faire's] evolved so far in a short amount of time."
