PHOTOS: Charcoal Deli Joins Equinox Broom Fad

Many Facebook users have posted pictures of brooms balancing on their own, rumored to be a result of the impending spring equinox.

Facebook has been abuzz with photos of freestanding brooms over the past several days, and is getting in on the sensation.

Urban legend has it that brooms are only able to balance on their own during the spring equinox, which occurs on March 20. Louisiana State University physics professor Bradley Schaefer told the school's student newspaper that this is an "old wives' [tale]"  and nothing more than balancing act.

But Charcoal Deli decided to join the trend and purchased about 20 brooms to place around the restaurant and nearby parking lot.

"We saw a lot of friends doing this on Facebook," said Cathryn Lee, the deli's owner. "We're kind of freaking [customers] out. They're more confused than anything."

Having been able to balance her brooms freely well before the equinox, Lee isn't a believer of the myth but still had fun with the process.

"I love funny little puzzlers like this," she said.
