Point Breeze Credit Union Battles Hunger and Identity Theft
Credit Union Destroys 23,730 Pounds of Sensitive Documents, Collects 3,060 Pounds of Food
Hunt Valley, Md. – December 8, 2015 – On October 31, 2015, Point Breeze Credit Union held successful community initiatives to support the fight against both hunger and identity theft. All Point Breeze Credit Union locations hosted Shred Hunger events, providing access to a massive, commercial document shredder in return for donations of non-perishable food items.
Those who took advantage of shredding services at all three locations brought in more than 23,730 pounds of now destroyed documents. Additionally, more than 3,060 pounds of food were collected during the Shred Hunger events and donated to the Maryland Food Bank. The collected food will provide over 2,550 meals to families in Baltimore and Harford Counties.
Properly destroying documents containing private information is a critical tool in preventing predators from gaining access to and using secure information to steal your identity or fraud your financial assets. Participants were encouraged to shred documents containing personal information including their name, address, phone number, account information, social security number, password and PINs, birthdate or signature.
