• Hyattsville treasurer temporarily remains on payroll following resignation announcement (thebanner.com) — Hyattsville's treasurer is still on the city payroll briefly to help transfer duties after resigning amid concerns over a steep drop in the general fund balance. City officials say he's working remotely from Ohio without access to bank accounts while staff share his responsibilities, and Hyattsville prepares costly searches for a new treasurer and city administrator.
• $1 Power Play move doubles retired coworkers' Powerball win to $100K (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A Powerball ticket bought at the Giant on Eastern Avenue in Hyattsville turned two retired federal coworkers into $100,000 winners, thanks to a $1 Power Play add-on. The pair, who usually only won a few dollars, matched four white balls and the Powerball in the August 24 drawing and claimed their prize in Baltimore, still undecided on how they'll use the windfall.
• Economic Development, Homeless Solutions Center of Department Day Trips: Community Connections Visit to Montgomery County (maryland.gov) — A Hyattsville-based business, Sangfroid Distilling, is expanding with state support, receiving $150,000 to turn a historic Takoma Park bank into a new distillery and cocktail bar. During a Montgomery County visit, Maryland housing officials highlighted this investment alongside broader efforts on homelessness, housing stability, and economic development tied to the Purple Line corridor.
