1. Two arrested in Prince George's County shooting that left a 33-year-old man dead (acenewstoday.com) — Two men have been arrested in connection with a deadly Sept. 6 shooting on the 2200 block of Lewisdale Drive in the unincorporated Hyattsville area, where a 33-year-old man was found shot in a vehicle and died at the scene. One suspect is from Hyattsville, the other from D.C., and both face first- and second-degree murder charges as detectives continue investigating a motive.
2. Delivery driver shoots, kills dog in Prince George's County: Police (dcnewsnow.com) — Police say a delivery driver shot and killed a dog Monday evening on the 5600 block of Emerson Street in the Hyattsville area, temporarily closing part of the road between 56th Avenue and 56th Place. Investigators are still piecing together what led to the shooting and are keeping the street shut while they work at the scene.
3. USA TODAY Sports Super 15 East region football rankings, Week 6 (usatoday.com) — Hyattsville's DeMatha Catholic is ranked No. 10 in USA TODAY's East Region Super 15 after bouncing back with a 27-6 win and improving to 3-1. The piece runs through top high school football programs across the East, but DeMatha is the only Hyattsville team featured and faces Riverdale Baptist next.
4. Maryland Man Charged With Stealing More Than $1 Million From Dozens of Seniors (thebaynet.com) — A Hyattsville man has been arrested and charged with federal bank fraud, accused of stealing more than $1 million from over 40 mostly elderly victims by redirecting their mail and using fraudulent debit cards. Prosecutors say the scheme, dating back to 2023, targeted seniors averaging 81 years old and also hit small businesses and a charter school.
