By 2028, local drivers will have access to public fast chargers there, helping close gaps along major travel corridors and supporting the growing number of electric vehicles statewide.
2. New Nurse Practitioner Joins Charles Regional Women's Health (southernmarylandchronicle.com) — Women in La Plata now have expanded access to OB-GYN and well-woman care through UM Charles Regional's Women's Health offices, including the La Plata location tied to the hospital's Birthing Center. A new nurse practitioner is seeing patients in nearby White Plains, part of a broader push to grow women's health services across Charles County and Southern Maryland.
3. Charles planning approves final plats for 35 homes (somdnews.com) — A 35-home subdivision called Shepherd's Creek Manor in La Plata has received final plat approval from the Charles planning commission after environmental and traffic reviews. Located off U.S. 301 near Shepherd's Creek Place and New Life Church, the project met wetland permitting and adequate public facilities requirements and can now move forward toward construction.
4. La Plata council votes to censure mayor over MDOT email (somdnews.com) — La Plata's town council voted 4-1 to censure Mayor Jeannine James over how she handled an email exchange with the Maryland Department of Transportation about a safety coalition role. Council members say her response undermined their chosen representative, while James argues she broke no rules and was acting within her normal state-level relationships and responsibilities.
5. CSM Foundation Golf Classic Sets $94K Record (southernmarylandchronicle.com) — Scholarship dollars are flowing directly to students at CSM's La Plata campus after the college foundation's Golf Classic raised a record $94,000 this year. The long-running event has now generated more than $1.6 million overall, helping hundreds of Southern Maryland students with tuition and support programs across La Plata and other campuses.
