3 Laurel Residents Charged In DUI Patrol: Police

Almost a dozen people were found driving under the influence before Thanksgiving, Howard County police reported.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Three Laurel residents were among 11 drivers arrested the night before Thanksgiving in an impaired driving enforcement detail, according to police. A DUI checkpoint was also planned for the weekend, authorities advised.

The Howard County Police Department said extra officers were patrolling overnight before Thanksgiving with assistance from a highway safety grant. They were focused on impaired drivers.

  • Michael Ellsworth Diggs, 39, of Laurel

  • Afton Paquita Smith, 34, of Ellicott City
  • Aubrey Wilson Baber III, 32, of Jessup

There will be a sobriety checkpoint this weekend at an undisclosed location, police advised.

Drivers will be out in force throughout the holiday season looking for impaired, distracted and speeding drivers as well as those conducting additional traffic violations.
